Description
The Kansas Silver Haired Legislature (SHL) is a unicameral legislature composed of 125 representatives. The legislature provides an educational experience in the political process and provides an opportunity to identify priority concerns of Kansas senior citizens. The SHL develops bills and resolutions which are presented to the Kansas Legislature and the Governor as recommendations for state policy.

Congregate meal sites include senior centers, churches and senior housing facilities. Open for anyone over 60 years of age. Transportation is provided to the nearest meal site for those who live east of Highway 635.

Description
The Kansas Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program (KSFMNP) is providing low-income seniors who meet age and income requirements with $50 in checks to purchase fresh fruits, vegetables, herbs and honey from authorized farmers at local participating farmers markets June 1 through Sept 15th. Checks are available in $5 increments. Funds are limited and available on a first come first served basis.

Description
The Home Delivered Meals Program is designed to improve and maintain the health of our seniors. The meals meet one-third of the recommended daily allowances for adults and have no added salt. Participants have a choice of either hot or frozen meals. Hot meals are delivered once a day, Monday through Friday. Frozen meal participants receive one box of five frozen meals, delivered once per week.

Intake Procedure
Complete application. Upon receipt of the application, the nutrition staff will schedule a home visit for assessment. This assessment will be completed and meals will be started within 10 working days of receipt of the completed application.
