      Eligibility

      - Disabled individual who have worked long enough and have a medical condition that has prevented them from working or is expected to prevent them from working for at least 12 months or end in death - Disabled individual family members may qualify for benefits based on disabled work, include spouse of the disabled individual, if he or she is age 62 years or older or at any age (if he or she is caring for a child of the disabled who is younger than age 16 years or disabled), the disabled unmarried child, including an adopted child or in some cases, a stepchild or grandchild (the child must be younger than age 18 years or younger than age 19 years if still in high school), disabled unmarried child age 18 years or older if he or she has a disability that started before age 22 years (the child’s disability must also meet the definition of disability for adults) - In some situations, a divorced spouse may qualify for benefits based on disabled earnings if he or she was married to disabled for at least 10 years, is not currently married and is at least age 62 years (the money paid to a divorced spouse doesn’t reduce disabled benefit or any benefits due to disabled current spouse or children) - Disabled individuals must have completed a five month waiting period to receive benefits
