Description

One-to-One Friendship Program: A participant with an Intellectual or Developmental Disability is paired with a person without an Intellectual or Developmental Disability based on location and shared interest. Activities likely include spending quality in-person time together at least twice a month. Local chapters plan events, host group activities and provide support. Paired buddies connect at least once a week by email, phone call, texting, social medial or written letters.

      Description

      Best Buddies Ambassadors program: Educates and empowers people with an intellectual or developmental disability through training and workshops, to become leaders and public speakers. Best Buddies Promoters: Empowers youth to become advocates for people with intellectual or developmental disabilities by organizing and participating in specific events throughout the school year that promote advocacy and bring awareness to the disability rights movement.

        Description

        Several volunteer opportunities are available either as a Buddy, Officer or Advisor. Buddy Programs: Volunteers are paired with individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities to create and maintain friendships. Volunteers are matched with a peer with similar interests. Friendship pairs talk at least once a week and meet in person twice a month. Officer: Volunteers with or without an intellectual or developmental disability works with a team to plan events and support friendships in their area. Advisor: Volunteer teachers or school faculty who support student leadership programs in managing chapters on campus or in a workplace.
