Description
Family Planning is a program for female residents age 13-50, of the County, seeking a form of birth control or requesting a pap smear who do not have a form of insurance that covers this service. A nurse practitioner visits the Health Center and performs pap smears, breast exams, and prescribes birth control methods for each client. Each client wishing to participate in the program must have an appointment with the nurse practitioner (all appointments are scheduled with a nurse). Several tests are included in the yearly exam: blood pressure, weight, height, iron level, syphilis, urine test; for protein and sugar, pap smear, breast exam, and gonorrhea/chlamydia cultures. With each exam, the nurse practitioner addresses important issues of pre-pregnancy counseling to include intake of folic acid, no drug/alcohol use & proper diet, prevention of the spread of STD's, and the importance of self-breast exams.

Below is a sample list of programs and services offered to the county residents and schools. Programs: Sex Education: Conducted in the middle schools in the county.
