Description:

Assists low-income families in their efforts to become self-sufficient by providing programs and services to improve the quality of their lives and the opportunity to eliminate the cause of poverty. Provides food vouchers, weatherization programs, electric services payment assistance, gas service payment assistance, heating and fuel payment assistance, GED high school equivalency test instruction, homework help programs, subject tutoring, certified application counselors, career counseling, career exploration, job training formats, job finding assistance, case and care management, life skills education, and a community action agency.

    Description

    Offers assistance with paying utility bills, which may include: metered services such as electric and gas bills, and non-metered services such as oil, wood, coal and propane. May also pay reconnect fees. Currently funding available as of October 1, 2011 for elderly and disabled only. November 1, 2011 funding will open for others. If clients have received assistance in the past they will receive an application in the mail after the appropriate date. If they did not receive assistance last year they need to call for an application after the appropriate date.

    Eligibility

    Butler County residents at or below 200% of the Poverty Guideline.         Must have experienced a disaster Applicants must meet the income eligibility guidelines. Households receiving SSI or TANF are qualified regardless of income Priority given to the elderly, individuals with disabilities, or who have children under 5 years.

            Description

            Weatherization and minor home repairs to assist low-income people, especially the elderly, individuals with disabilities and/or those with small children to conserve energy through the installation of weatherization materials. Weatherization uses an energy audit procedure to establish cost effective weatherization measures. The audit also calculates the reduction in energy usage.
